Below are some pictures of the factory fuel sediment bowl assembly. These fuel bowls are also found on the China Dozers. The purpose of the sediment bowl is to catch/trap water (condensation) and large pieces of trash (contaminants) in the fuel before it enters the fuel filter, injection pump & injectors. Some of the pictures are of new & old sediment bowls.
By design, Fuel falls down in to the fuel bowl via gravity and is assisted via the vacuum created by the lift pump. Then the fuel is drawn up through the screen to supply the lift pump on the side of the injection pump. Then the lift pump pushes the fuel through the spin on fuel filter and then to the injection pump fuel chamber. This is considered available fuel..... ie, fuel available to be pressurized for injection via the injection pump.
The pictures show problem areas with the factory sediment bowl screen in top of the bowl (holes & improper fit/seal). This allows un-filtered/screened fuel to enter the fuel filter. The screen on the inlet side of the sediment bowl (screen inside tank) also shows holes. The idea of having a screen on the inlet side of the fuel bowl may seem like a good thing?? It may be a enemy. If/when this screen stops up, gets restricted from trash, the fuel bowl goes dry and the engine stops. Now the tank will have to be drained and fuel bowl assembly removed & cleaned.
We offer a Aftermarket Fuel Sediment Bowl Up-Grade Kit. Our new sediment bowl kit has a glass bowl. This will allow you to visually inspect the bowl for water/trash and service/clean if/when as needed. Our replacement sediment bowl does not have the in tank strainer on the inlet side of the fuel bowl. Whatever is in the tank will fall into the bowl unless it is to large and plugs the inlet port of the bowl. Our replacement bowl also incorporates a diffuser to aid in separating fuel contaminants as it enters the fuel bowl.
